Just a day after once again earning the prestigious honor of three Michelin stars, 59-year-old French chef Paul Pairet announced that his renowned restaurant, Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet, may face an indefinite closure sometime in 2025.

Located in Shanghai, Ultraviolet has consistently appeared on both the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants and World’s 50 Best Restaurants lists. Notably, it is the first Western restaurant in mainland China to achieve the coveted three Michelin stars, maintaining this status for an impressive eight consecutive years.

The restaurant’s base tasting menu is priced at 4,800 RMB per person, with its exclusive special menus ranging from 6,800 to 10,000 RMB.

In his announcement, Pairet cited a key reason for the potential closure: the restaurant’s location has become encircled by extensive construction sites, making it increasingly challenging to maintain normal operations.
