WeChat Pay to Launch “China Wallet” for Foreigners

WeChat Pay is preparing to roll out its “China Wallet” feature to better cater to the diverse payment needs of international residents living in Shenzhen.

This new service will allow users to top up their wallets using international cards, such as those issued by VISA, offering a convenient solution for quick and small-scale payments. The “China Wallet” is specifically designed to expand payment options for foreign nationals in China.

Qin Tianxiong, Head of International Card Services at Tenpay (WeChat Pay’s parent company), highlighted that the “China Wallet” is a mobile payment system tailored for foreigners. It enables users to seamlessly recharge their wallets using international credit or debit cards, simplifying everyday transactions. This service not only diversifies payment methods but also makes life more convenient for foreign residents in China.

Key features of the “China Wallet” include:

  • Support for international cards, allowing quick and hassle-free wallet top-ups.
  • Small-scale payment solutions to meet daily spending needs.
  • Collaboration with millions of merchants across China, covering industries like food, retail, housing, and transportation.
