According to a report by the Colombian newspaper La Republica on April 18, Colombian Foreign Minister Laura Sarabia announced that the procedure to exempt Chinese citizens and those from other countries from visa requirements has been set in motion. Sarabia was quoted as saying that this decision, made in coordination with President Gustavo Petro, is aimed at boosting tourism, trade, and investment in Colombia. “We will continue to collaborate, as we always have, with a common vision and through smooth communication,” Sarabia added.

In response to inquiries regarding whether Chinese citizens with ordinary passports and service ordinary passports can enter Colombia visa – free, the Chinese Embassy in Colombia clarified on Wednesday that although the Colombian side has announced the start of the relevant procedures, the specific implementation details remain unclear. The embassy affirmed its commitment to further follow – up and to work towards the rapid implementation of this favorable development.

The long – standing issue of the difficulty for Chinese citizens to obtain Colombian visas has been an obstacle to people – to – people exchanges between the two countries. Thanks to the embassy’s continuous efforts in promoting this matter, there has been a significant and positive shift in the attitude of the Colombian government at a high level recently. This represents an important step forward in resolving this problem.

The embassy emphasized that currently, Chinese citizens holding ordinary passports and service ordinary passports still need to obtain visas before traveling to Colombia. It also advised Chinese citizens planning to visit Colombia to thoroughly understand the country’s entry regulations, especially to stay tuned for subsequent announcements from the embassy, and not to be misled by unfounded speculations on social media.
