Selina Adu Gyamfi, a woman from Abodom in the Asante Bekwai Municipality of Ghana’s Ashanti Region, is appealing to the public and law enforcement for assistance in locating her former Chinese partner, known as Leon, who she claims abandoned her after she became pregnant.

Selina recounted that she met Leon several years ago in Bekwai while he was involved in illegal mining—commonly referred to as “galamsey.” Over time, the two formed a romantic relationship, during which Leon reportedly provided her with regular financial support.

“He was among the Chinese nationals who came to Abodom for galamsey,” Selina explained in an interview on Nyira FM’s social issues program. “We got close, and he used to support me financially.”

She added that Leon often assured her of his affection, which led her to trust him and become intimate.

“He told me he loved me and would regularly give me money—sometimes 1,000 cedis a week, or 500 cedis every three days,” she said.

According to Selina, she only realized she was pregnant two months after Leon and his team had left Bekwai. When she contacted him to share the news, he initially reacted positively but soon changed his behavior.

“At first, he was happy about the pregnancy,” she said. “But later, people must have influenced him because he started avoiding me and eventually blocked me completely.”

Frustrated and desperate for support, Selina tracked Leon down and reported the matter to the police, which led to his arrest. However, she claims he was released shortly afterward.

“While we were together, he treated me well,” she lamented. “Now, I’m left to care for our child alone, and I have no idea where he is.”

Selina is now making a public plea for help in finding Leon, as she struggles to raise their child without any financial or emotional support from the father.
In a related case, another Ghanaian woman has also come forward, claiming that her Chinese partner, identified as Lee Hyung—also known locally as Bra Yaw—abandoned her and their two-year-old child.
