A French father and his Latvian ex-wife have reignited their dispute three years after their 2022 divorce, this time over child‑related costs. The former couple’s 10‑year‑old son had been on a two‑week alternating custody schedule, with each parent covering daily expenses during their turn. Earlier this year the father sought over 90,000 yuan from the court’s enforcement bureau, itemizing three claims: reimbursement for nanny and meal costs based on 196 additional days he cared for the child; school bus fees, which he argued were “extracurricular”; and half the child’s insurance premiums after he kept the family policy post‑divorce. The mother rejected all claims, saying the nanny served the father’s household, the bus was a school expense, and the insurance was continued unilaterally. Mediation failed and the father sued to convert the arrangement to sole custody, which the mother opposed. The court prioritized the child’s welfare, heard the boy through psychologists, and honored his wish to maintain ties with both parents. They agreed to continue joint custody but on a year‑long rotation, with fixed visitation for the non‑resident parent. The financial dispute was settled with the mother paying 40,000 yuan.
