At noon on August 7, a heart-stopping yet uplifting rescue took place near the North Gate Pier of Fenghuang Ancient Town in Hunan Province. A young boy playing by the Tuo River accidentally fell into the water and was swiftly carried away by the strong current.

Surveillance footage revealed the heroic sequence of events. Within moments, a foreign female tourist walking on a nearby bridge and the boy’s grandfather on the riverbank both plunged into the water without hesitation. The tourist reached the boy first, gripping him firmly to prevent him from being swept further. Working seamlessly together, they brought the child to safety in under 30 seconds.

An eyewitness told reporters the rescue may have been even quicker than recorded—possibly under ten seconds from the fall to the rescue. According to the witness, the boy slipped in the shallows before being dragged underwater by the current near a wooden plank bridge. The foreign tourist, spotting the danger from the bridge, immediately dove in, followed closely by the grandfather. Other bystanders also rushed to assist.

Mr. Liu, who filmed the incident, explained that the boy’s head had already gone underwater amid the fast-moving water. Several people onshore had started running toward the river but stopped when they saw the rescuers safely holding the boy. Liu, who had been filming the scenery, hadn’t expected to capture such a dramatic yet moving moment. He later shared the video with the foreign tourist as a keepsake.
