Japanese authorities report that a 37-year-old Chinese tourist was stabbed on a street in Kyoto on Friday evening before the attacker escaped.

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto. Police believe the victim was attacked with a sharp weapon.

Although injured, the man remained conscious when taken to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening wounds to his upper body.

The victim, who was in Kyoto for sightseeing, reportedly got into a dispute with the assailant after dining at a nearby restaurant.

Police describe the suspect as approximately 1.75 meters (5 feet 9 inches) tall, wearing glasses and a white T-shirt. The two men were not acquainted, and investigators are treating the case as attempted murder.

The stabbing took place near Kiyomizu-gojo Station on the Keihan Railway Line, an area with many hotels and residential buildings.
