The Nansha branch line of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) is set to open in October, as reported by local media on Saturday.
Liu Wei, head of the Nansha district, announced at a recent government-business event in Guangzhou that the travel time between Guangzhou’s Nansha and Shenzhen will be reduced from two hours to approximately 20 minutes.
This new line is expected to enhance connectivity between Guangzhou and Shenzhen, reinforcing Nansha’s pivotal role as a hub within the GBA, Liu remarked.
The asphalt paving for the Nansha link is complete, with about 85 percent of the interchange ramps under construction.
Groundbreaking for Nansha Station is imminent. The station is projected to become one of the region’s largest transportation hubs, accommodating 80 million people and linking over 800,000 businesses within an hour’s drive.
Transportation development is crucial for the coordinated growth of the GBA. A “one-hour traffic circle” has formed among cities like Guangzhou and Shenzhen, according to Liu.
Since its inauguration, the corridor has seen consistently high traffic, establishing itself as a key route for land and sea transport.
Experts emphasize the strategic significance of the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Corridor in promoting regional integration, enhancing connections among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao, and driving economic and industrial advancement.
Data from China’s Ministry of Transport reveals that nearly 60,000 vessels have passed through the Shenzhen-Zhongshan Bridge Corridor since its opening in late June.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival holidays from September 15 to 17, the bridge saw a peak single-day passenger flow of 105,000, as per media reports.
