A 14-year-old girl tragically took her own life after revealing that she had been allegedly sexually assaulted at a discipline training facility in Jiangxi province. The police have announced that a man has been formally detained on suspicion of the crime.

The individual in question, identified as Mr. Wang, who was an instructor at the camp, was taken into custody on August 4th following a report made by the girl’s mother. The case is currently under active investigation by the authorities.

The victim, known only by her surname Du, ended her life by jumping from her family’s residence on August 5th, just one day after she reported the abuse, as per local media accounts.

Ms. Du had attended the training camp in Anyuan county in July, close to her home. Initially, her mother would often spot her in photos posted by the camp’s staff on a WeChat group. However, as time went on, her mother noticed that her daughter was no longer appearing in the group’s shared images, as reported by Huashang News, a Shaanxi-based newspaper.

The camp concluded on July 26th. After returning home, Ms. Du exhibited symptoms of depression. On August 1st, her mother was informed by another child who attended the camp that her daughter had been sexually violated by Mr. Wang in the presence of other girls.

Upon questioning by her mother on August 2nd, Ms. Du revealed that she had been sexually assaulted on three occasions by Mr. Wang between July 11th and 15th. She also disclosed that she had been forced to take contraceptive medication.

Ms. Du attempted to flee the camp on July 17th to seek assistance, but was intercepted and stopped by the camp’s instructors. Furthermore, she had confided in a camp teacher about her experience, but no action was taken in response.

On the afternoon of August 5th, while being consoled by her family, Ms. Du unexpectedly leaped from a window in a hallway. Despite the best efforts of medical professionals to save her, she was declared deceased around 9 pm.

The girl’s father, in an interview with Jiupai News, a Hubei-based news portal, expressed his profound grief, stating: “To see your own child jump from a building is utterly heart-wrenching. It feels as though the world has come to an end.”
