Two Italian travelers touring Pingyao Ancient City in Shanxi have won widespread praise for their integrity. The pair discovered a gold bracelet valued at over 20,000 yuan (around 2,800 US dollars) and turned it in to local police.
The whole incident took place at about 4 p.m. on October 21, as the two visitors wandered around the old county government building. They noticed the bracelet on the pavement just outside a restaurant.
Knowing the jewellery was quite precious, they chose to track down its owner instead of carrying on with their trip. They brought the bracelet to a tourist police service desk specially for foreign guests within the ancient city police station.
Once they finished simple registration procedures, the two resumed their sightseeing.
At the same time, officers launched a search for the bracelet’s owner. It was not long before a local person came forward to report the lost gold bracelet. Police verified all the information and gave the bracelet back to its rightful owner.
The owner expressed sincere thanks to the Italian tourists for their good deed and commended the police for handling the case quickly.
