Deep Water Bay, Hong Kong (October 2025) – A heartbreaking sequence of events spanning just 20 minutes led to a double tragedy in an affluent Hong Kong neighborhood, as revealed by police. A 34-year-old French-Taiwanese mother, suffering from postnatal depression, drowned her 7-month-old daughter in a baby bath before taking her own life by hanging—all before her husband discovered the horrifying scene two hours later.

The Incident: A Frantic Final Act

The tragedy unfolded on Monday afternoon at an exclusive duplex on Shouson Hill Road, Deep Water Bay.

  • 1:40 PM: The family’s domestic helper left the residence.
  • Shortly before 2:00 PM: CCTV footage captured the mother moving restlessly between floors, carrying a baby bath.
    • She took the bath to the kitchen, then returned upstairs to the master bedroom—and did not reappear.
    • Assistant District Commander (Crime) Hui Hong-kit described the entire sequence as lasting around 20 minutes.
  • 4:10 PM: The woman’s French husband returned home, found the bodies, and alerted police.

  • Infant (7 months old): Found submerged in a filled baby bath in the kitchen.
  • Mother: Discovered in a walk-in wardrobe, having hanged herself with a belt.
  • Autopsy findings: No suspicious injuries; deaths consistent with drowning and hanging.

Mental Health Struggles & Suicide Note

  • Police confirmed the woman had a history of depression, which resurfaced after childbirth.
  • Commander Hui stated: “This was her first baby, and her depressive condition showed signs of recurrence after childbirth.”
  • She was prescribed antidepressants and was believed to be taking them regularly.
  • A suicide note was found, expressing deep unhappiness and apologies to family members.

Investigation & Classification
