A shocking video circulating online features a 3-year-old girl from China walking into a hospital with a 15-centimeter (6-inch) fruit knife embedded in her head, drawing widespread public concern. The footage shows the child, accompanied by her mother, entering the People’s Hospital in Dongchuan District, Kunming, Yunnan Province.
According to a report from the Dongchuan District Health and Family Planning Bureau on August 17, 2025, the girl underwent emergency surgery (craniotomy) and is now in stable condition. She remains conscious, with CT scans revealing no major bleeding, and is under observation in the neurosurgery department. Doctors expect her to recover fully and be discharged soon.
Accidental Injury During Bed-Making
The incident occurred around 11:00 PM on August 15, 2025, when the girl’s mother, Hu, was changing bedsheets at their home in Dongchuan. While pulling the sheets, she inadvertently flung a fruit knife lying near the bed, striking her daughter, Liu, who was playing nearby.
Remarkably, the toddler walked into the hospital with her mother without anyone calling 120 (China’s emergency medical services). Hospital staff confirmed that the mother had tried—unsuccessfully—to remove the knife before seeking professional help.
Police Confirm Accident, No Foul Play
Authorities investigated the case and determined it was purely accidental, ruling out intentional harm.
Medical Expert Weighs In
A senior doctor explained that while a knife embedded in the skull is extremely dangerous, prompt medical attention can prevent fatal outcomes. “In this case, the blade likely lodged in the bone rather than penetrating deeper into the brain—likely due to the child’s softer skull, which makes such injuries more probable,” the doctor said. “It’s astonishing how calm the girl remained.”
The physician emphasized that forcibly removing the knife could have caused catastrophic bleeding or further damage. “The correct action was to go straight to the hospital. Fortunately, the child is out of danger and recovering well.”
