Yichang, Hubei (October 30, 2025) – Three Gorges University has formally announced the expulsion of a male international student following a disturbing incident in which he illegally entered a female dormitory and committed an indecent act. The case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stricter campus safety measures.

Incident Details

In the early hours of October 26, the foreign student scaled a wall and broke into a female student residence. According to local reports, the breach occurred around 2 a.m. when the student climbed through a first-floor window and accessed a second-floor room. The victim, who was asleep, reported that the intruder touched her head and attempted inappropriate contact. She resisted, was struck in the face during the struggle, and fled to alert dormitory staff.

University authorities immediately notified police, who arrived at the scene to conduct an investigation. Online videos showed officers questioning students and searching the area with flashlights.

Official Response

In an official statement released on October 29, the university confirmed the student had been criminally detained by police and subsequently expelled under disciplinary rules. “This incident serves as a serious lesson,” the statement read. “We will enhance student management and campus security to protect students’ rights and maintain order.”

Prior Concerns & Public Reaction

The incident has gone viral on Chinese social media, garnering millions of views and thousands of comments. Some students noted that the women’s dormitory, located on the South Campus, faces the foreign student residence, raising security concerns. Others revealed previous thefts of women’s underwear in the area, prompting the university to install metal spikes on first-floor windows for protection.

Local police verified on October 29 that the suspect had been apprehended and pledged to cooperate with the university to improve safety protocols. “The case is under legal review, and the final outcome will be announced after the investigation concludes,” an officer stated.

Broader Implications

The case has reignited debates over campus security and the equitable treatment of international students. Many netizens demanded stronger accountability and equal protection for all students, emphasizing the need for preventive measures.
