Huang Wen, a resident of Changde in Hunan province, was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve on Monday for endangering public safety through dangerous actions, according to the Xinhua News Agency. The Changde Intermediate People’s Court also imposed a lifetime deprivation of his political rights.

The court reported that on the morning of November 19, at 7:37 a.m., Huang intentionally drove his vehicle into a group of primary school students. When his car malfunctioned and stopped, he got out and continued his attack using a handheld weapon. The incident injured 30 people, including 18 primary school students, and caused extensive damage to both public and private property. Huang was arrested at the scene.

Investigations revealed that Huang committed the crime out of personal frustration stemming from financial losses and family conflicts. The court characterized his actions as extremely malicious, targeting innocent people at random.

Huang deliberately timed the attack to coincide with the students’ morning arrival at school, taking advantage of the crowded setting to inflict maximum harm. His actions caused not only physical injuries and property damage but also severe psychological trauma to witnesses, including young children, as noted by the court.
