Hit-and-Run Drama Resolved Through Persistent Police Mediation

The situation began when a distressed motorist reported to local traffic authorities: “A truck collided with our car. We’re honking and chasing it, but the driver won’t pull over. What should we do?” Responding swiftly, Officer Miao Fei calmed the caller, assured them of police intervention, and provided real-time guidance via phone to safely document evidence. He then directed the victims to submit materials at the traffic enforcement office for formal investigation.

After tracing the truck driver’s details, Miao initiated contact, urging cooperation. The victims—a British national accompanying his Chinese partner on a family visit, with imminent plans to return to the UK—also attempted communication, but the driver remained evasive. Despite persistent follow-ups until late evening, the driver claimed to have left the area and refused to engage.

Faced with this impasse, Miao proposed an alternative resolution, which the victims accepted. Authorities eventually compelled the driver’s compliance, confirming through an official report that the truck operator bore full liability for the accident.

However, complications arose when the driver rejected compensation demands for travel disruptions and repair-related expenses. With limited time and legal options abroad, the foreign national appealed again to Officer Miao. Through rigorous negotiations over multiple sessions, Miao secured the driver’s agreement to financial restitution, safeguarding the victims’ interests.

The case highlights challenges in cross-border accident resolution and underscores law enforcement’s critical role in bridging procedural gaps for transient individuals.
