On Sunday, the MTR Corporation announced that the Hong Kong section of the high-speed railway linking the mainland and Hong Kong will add 16 new destinations starting January 26.
The expansion will connect Hong Kong with popular tourist cities such as Nanjing and Wuxi in Jiangsu Province, and Hefei in Anhui Province. This brings the total number of direct destinations from Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Station to 110.
In addition, the Shanghai Hongqiao sleeper service will be upgraded from four days a week (Friday to Monday) to daily operation. Train frequencies on routes to and from Guangzhounan Station will also be increased.
Jeny Yeung, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation, stated that the company has been working closely with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, relevant mainland authorities, and national railway operators to continuously expand the network and enhance services. These efforts aim to further facilitate cross-boundary travel, unlock the economic potential of high-speed rail, and support national development.
