On September 26, an internet user named Zhang Zan (a pseudonym) posted on social media, raising concerns about the ease of obtaining security check information. Zhang Zan, who identifies as a model agent, stated, “Yesterday (the 25th), a model flew from Shanghai to Guangzhou. Today, someone contacted me with a photo taken during the security check and used it to find my reserved phone number from the ticket booking. They added me on WeChat and asked if they could get in touch with the model.”
In the WeChat conversation screenshot shared by Zhang Zan, the individual explained, “Yesterday, my friend met her on the plane and thought she was nice, so they had someone look up her contact info. When they saw that the reserved phone number was yours, they asked me to reach out.” Zhang Zan mentioned that the photo appeared to have been taken during the model’s facial recognition process at the security check.
Reports from “Zhengzai News” indicate that the person whose personal information was leaked is a foreign model. “Models frequently encounter unwanted attention and harassment, but this is the first time someone has used a security check photo to track them down. Previously, people mostly purchased contact information from external websites,” Zhang Zan explained.
The flight details provided by Zhang Zan show that the model traveled on Juneyao Airlines flight HO1853, departing from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to Guangzhou Baiyun Airport on September 25 at 9:55 PM and arriving at 12:15 AM on September 26.
On September 27, “Zhengzai News” reached out to Juneyao Airlines for clarification. The customer service representative said they were unaware of the incident and would need to report it for verification. Additionally, “Zhengzai News” contacted the Hongqiao Airport complaint hotline, where staff indicated that such issues should be reported to the airline since the airport does not hold passenger information. They added, “Security check personnel would never leak passengers’ private information, and it is advised to report the incident to the police.”
Half an hour later, a Shanghai Hongqiao Airport staff member, claiming to be the head of the security team, contacted Mr. Zhang using a personal phone number, stating that the involved personnel would be dismissed. Shortly afterward, “Zhengzai News” called the Hongqiao Airport complaint hotline again, where the staff confirmed the incident. They explained, “The security department noticed the social media post through public opinion monitoring, held an internal meeting, and has already responded to Mr. Zhang.” They also noted that it was inappropriate for the security personnel to use a personal phone number to contact a passenger.
