A 27-year-old food courier in Shenyang, China, married the American kindergarten teacher he once surprised with an unexpected “I love you” in an elevator.
Liu, who delivers noodles, first met 30-year-old Hannah Harris from Alabama last November when she ordered food via an app. Their brief lift encounter—where Liu awkwardly declared his love in broken English—led to laughter and exchanged contacts. Despite language barriers, they bonded over shared interests like animals, food, and sports.
Harris joined Liu on deliveries, and they explored villages together. By January, Liu proposed at a subway station with a diamond ring. They married two months later in Liu’s rural hometown, with Harris’s parents offering video blessings.
The couple now learns each other’s languages, cooks international dishes, and cycles together. Liu, from a modest background, said Harris values love over material things. His advice? “If you love someone, say it out loud.”
