A 31‑year‑old Chinese PhD candidate and her 2‑month‑old daughter were found dead on the morning of November 29 in their Düsseldorf apartment on Oberbilker Allee. Police say the 43‑year‑old Slovakian husband called emergency services at around 11 a.m., appeared at the door holding a knife, and was taken into custody after officers found the victims. A knife and a hatchet were recovered; neighbors reported a loud argument beforehand. The man, who sustained self‑inflicted injuries, remains hospitalized and has not been formally interrogated. Prosecutors have issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of homicide. The Chinese embassy in Germany activated emergency support, and the family has received help with emergency visas and legal/travel costs; the case has been handed to the prosecutor’s office
