A 33-year-old Chinese national, identified as Cheung Wai-hung, was apprehended at Fukuoka Airport on October 4, suspected of committing a sexual assault in Tokyo earlier this year.

According to Japanese reports, Cheung arrived in Tokyo on June 7 with his girlfriend. On June 9, he allegedly groped a local woman in her 20s on Asakusa’s Shin-Nakamise shopping street, claiming he was brushing off an insect from her clothing. The woman later reported the incident to the police, and Cheung left Japan the following day.

It was only last Friday that Japanese authorities detained Cheung at Fukuoka Airport as he re-entered the country from Hong Kong. He denies any involvement in the incident. Additionally, police have stated that there was a similar report filed in the Asakusa area on the same day, with surveillance footage identifying Cheung as a suspect in both cases.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong records reveal that a man with the same name was previously arrested in 2020 for several sexual assault offenses and theft, receiving a sentence of two years and nine months in April 2021.
