
In a Shenzhen mall, toilet cubicles feature smart glass that switches from frosted to clear when smoke is detected, paired with an audible alarm. A sign warns, “Smoking will make the glass transparent—don’t end up an online sensation,” with a cartoon “social death” emoji. Management says the system, now in trial at Shuibei International Center, has cut smoking in restrooms and will be promoted to other commercial buildings after positive feedback.
