On Tuesday (1st), a disturbing incident occurred at the Jilin Base of China Southern Airlines in Changchun, Jilin Province, where a pilot identified as Li allegedly fell to his death following a violent altercation.

According to insiders, the confrontation took place around 11 a.m. when Li met with flight department supervisors to discuss an evaluation of his qualifications. The assessment reportedly yielded unfavorable results, leading to a heated dispute. During the argument, Li allegedly assaulted the Flight Department’s Party Secretary, Mr. Liu, as well as the department manager, Mr. Zhu. He then turned on the base’s union chairman and another ground staff member who attempted to intervene.

Following the altercation, Li reportedly smashed a window on the 15th floor of the building before plummeting to his death.

Additional sources revealed that Li had been deemed deficient in his understanding and adherence to “regulations and procedures.” Specific concerns included errors in his knowledge of “communication failure protocols” and “cockpit door electronic lock passwords.” As a result, he was advised to undergo extensive retraining and theoretical testing. Had he passed the exam, he would have been temporarily downgraded to a “Z captain” role, required to complete at least 50 flight hours, undergo monitoring after four takeoffs and landings, and only regain his original qualifications upon successful evaluation.
