Starting September 30, 2025, paper reimbursement vouchers for train travel in China will be completely discontinued, replaced solely by electronic invoices. The shift began on November 1, 2024, when the railway system introduced fully digital invoices, allowing passengers to request refunds or reimbursements online without printing physical tickets.
A transition period ran until September 30, 2025, during which both paper and electronic vouchers were accepted. Now, with just one month remaining, paper tickets will officially become obsolete.
A 12306 spokesperson confirmed that after September 30, stations will no longer issue paper vouchers. “Paper tickets are only available until September 30. Beyond that, everything will be digital,” they said.
While some worry about elderly passengers, those needing a physical record can still print an itinerary slip from self-service machines. This document includes key details like departure time, stations, seat numbers, and gate info—ensuring convenience without relying on paper tickets.
