During a live performance in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, 21-year-old Chinese rapper Apmozart abruptly halted his show to assist a female audience member who urgently reported being molested. Initially distracted by the loud music, the rapper handed her the microphone after not hearing her clearly. She then revealed the horrifying incident, stating, “The pervert discharged onto my leg,” and described the attacker as a grey-clad, slightly overweight man with greasy hair, around her height.
Without hesitation, Apmozart declared, “Let’s go catch him,” directing staff to lock the venue’s doors and review security footage. The crowd erupted in cheers as he mobilized bystanders to help. Though he reassured the woman she could continue enjoying the show, he vowed that either he or the police would ensure the culprit’s arrest.
The next day, Hangzhou police announced the arrest of 25-year-old Luo, who now faces up to 15 days of criminal detention under the Public Security Administration Punishments Law. Apmozart later explained in a livestream that while initial efforts to detain the man failed, surveillance footage and audience-submitted videos led to his capture.
Praising the victim’s courage, Apmozart urged women to speak up and preserve evidence, earning widespread online acclaim. Netizens dubbed him “Captain Justice,” while others highlighted the victim’s bravery and Hangzhou police’s swift action. The city has gained national recognition for its tough stance on sexual assault, including publicly naming metro molesters in 2023.
