In southwestern China, an 11-month-old toddler named Juanjuan (nicknamed by his parents) has stunned the internet with his impressive skateboarding skills—despite not yet being able to walk. The baby, from Chengdu, Sichuan province, has been independently gliding on a skateboard for two months, earning widespread attention for his confident balance and poise.
Juanjuan’s father, Liu Daolong, a retired member of China’s national snowboarding team, introduced his son to the sport at just five months old. A passionate boardsports enthusiast, Liu brought Juanjuan to a local skate park early in his development. His mother recalled the experience as an exhilarating “free roller coaster ride,” noting how much the baby enjoyed it.
By the time Juanjuan could stand with support—around six months—he was already practicing balance on a snowboard at home. At eight months, he managed to stay balanced on the snowboard for over a minute, prompting Liu to transition him to skateboarding training.
Initially, Juanjuan practiced indoors, but by nine months, he was ready for his first outdoor session in their residential complex. Starting with short rolls, he quickly progressed, and now, at 11 months, he can skateboard solo for several hundred meters through the bustling downtown area.
His mother runs a social media account documenting his adventures, where videos show Juanjuan wearing a protective helmet and diapers while gliding smoothly. His father runs alongside, arms outstretched for safety, occasionally offering tips—like shifting weight to his back foot—which Juanjuan seems to understand instinctively.
The toddler has mastered balancing, speed control, and navigating bumps with ease, often giggling mid-ride as he enjoys the experience. Remarkably, despite his advanced skateboarding abilities, Juanjuan has yet to take his first steps.
