Beijing, August 29 (Xinhua) — Air China confirmed on Wednesday that Flight CA856 from London to Beijing was forced to make an emergency landing in Russia after a mechanical issue mid-flight. A replacement aircraft later safely transported passengers to Beijing.
According to Air China’s Weibo statement, the flight experienced technical problems on Tuesday Beijing time. The crew followed standard procedures to divert the plane.
The original flight, which departed London at 10:43 p.m. local time on Monday, was scheduled to land in Beijing at 3:25 p.m. Beijing time on Tuesday. However, it landed at Nizhnevartovsk Airport in Russia at 8:17 a.m. local time.
Air China dispatched a backup plane to the alternate airport the same day, and the replacement flight arrived at Beijing Capital International Airport on Wednesday morning without incident.
