A video went viral on Monday, showing a woman in tears on the ground after returning from a bathroom break while waiting in line at Shanghai Disney Resort. The woman exceeded the 20-minute limit set by the “bathroom pass” rule, leading to a dispute with park staff and sparking a debate about the fairness of the rule.

The “bathroom pass” system is designed to keep order and ensure a positive experience for most visitors, with a 20-minute time limit for rejoining the queue after using the restroom, according to media reports.

The incident quickly became the most discussed topic on social media, with some netizens questioning the dignity of adhering to such strict rules, even after paying for entry. While some argued that the rules are too rigid, particularly in a crowded theme park like Disneyland, others felt that visitors should plan ahead and follow the park’s guidelines.

This debate also raised concerns about whether the “bathroom pass” system could be refined.

On Tuesday, the Chinese media outlet cqcb.com cited a staff member from the culture, sports, and tourism bureau of Pudong New Area in Shanghai, who acknowledged that the large number of visitors could cause congestion in certain areas and suggested that resort staff should improve crowd management and queue assistance.

According to media reports, some insiders emphasized the need to consider the practical needs of visitors, such as women, the elderly, and children, as well as the distribution of restrooms within the park.

They also encouraged visitors to familiarize themselves with the rules, manage their time effectively, and prepare for potential challenges. Additionally, it’s important for people to show understanding and patience towards the park staff.
