The 2025 Spring Festival travel rush begins on Tuesday and will extend until February 22, spanning 40 days, according to China Railway Group Co. During this period, China’s railway network is expected to handle approximately 510 million passenger trips, averaging around 12.75 million trips daily.

On the first day of the travel rush, the national railways are forecasted to accommodate 10.3 million passenger trips. China Railway noted a strong public enthusiasm for travel, with passenger numbers anticipated to rise steadily throughout the period.

This year’s Spring Festival features an 8-day holiday and significant easing of China’s visa-free transit policies. It also marks the first travel rush since the Spring Festival was recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

To meet demand, China Railway has announced plans to increase passenger transport capacity. New railway lines inaugurated in 2024, along with the deployment of 185 new Fuxing high-speed trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 350 kilometers per hour, will significantly boost transportation capacity.

China Railway also emphasized its commitment to improving passenger ticketing services, enhancing station facilities, and ensuring the efficient transport of essential goods. Measures include prioritizing the transportation of food, spring farming supplies, and holiday necessities, as well as ensuring sufficient coal transport to maintain stable energy supplies during the festival.
