Recently, customs officers at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport intercepted a male foreign passenger whose nervous behavior and unusual demeanor aroused suspicion during an inspection of an inbound flight. After questioning and further investigation, authorities suspected the individual of internally concealing drugs and handed him over to anti-smuggling officials for further processing.

The suspect was immediately escorted to a designated medical facility for examination. Under supervision, he expelled 25 drug-filled capsules. Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed that the capsules contained a total of 339.95 grams of cocaine and 0.94 grams of heroin.

In recent years, international drug trafficking networks have increasingly resorted to diverse and high-risk methods to smuggle drugs. These include body-packing techniques and exploiting vulnerable groups such as the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and pregnant women as drug couriers.

Customs officials have issued a reminder to the public that, under Article 347 of China’s Criminal Law, smuggling, trafficking, transporting, or manufacturing drugs is a serious criminal offense, regardless of the quantity involved. Such crimes are subject to severe legal consequences, including long-term imprisonment or even the death penalty.
