A foreign man in his forties was rescued from the waters near South Horizons late Friday night after an attempt to swim six kilometers from Mo Tat Wan on Lamma Island to Aberdeen went wrong.

The incident began around 10:30 PM, following a day of relaxation at the beach that had started at approximately 2:50 PM when the man and six of his friends arrived at Mo Tat Wan. According to witnesses, the group consumed fifty-two beers and two shots of Jack Daniel’s during the day. One of the friends had been heard boasting about his swimming skills, claiming he could easily swim to Aberdeen.

By 6:30 PM, the man had disappeared from view, which led two of his friends to search for him by swimming in the area. A local resident even took a kayak to assist in the search. However, after no success, the restaurant owner called the authorities for help.

A rescue team was dispatched, including a helicopter and several fire and police boats. After about four hours of searching, the man was located swimming in the waters near South Horizons. He was found to be unharmed and fully conscious.
