A drunken woman in China was recently detained after she physically assaulted a food delivery driver who reminded her about road safety, an incident that has sparked significant outrage across social media platforms.

The woman, identified as 42-year-old Ms. Huang, was taken into custody by police in Chongqing, located in southwestern China, as reported by Xinmin Evening News. The victim, a 21-year-old delivery worker named Mr. Ran, required hospital treatment following the attack, although the full extent of his injuries has not been disclosed.

According to a police statement, Huang, who had been drinking that day, was a passenger on the back of an electric bike driven by her friend. The bike was reportedly swerving, prompting Ran to remind the two about road safety when they came near his vehicle. His comment irritated Huang, who reacted aggressively, pulling him to the ground.

Viral video footage on Chinese social media captured the moment Huang kicked Ran, stomped on his face, and slapped him repeatedly. Despite the assault, Ran did not retaliate, although he was heard shouting, “You think you can hit us as much as you like?” as he lay on the ground. Fellow couriers gathered around, urging Huang to stop, while one reminded her, “You can’t just walk away after attacking someone.” Her friend attempted to calm her down, but the situation only ended when police officers arrived and took Huang in for questioning.

The incident occurred on Ran’s first day working as a delivery driver, and he later shared that the experience left him physically injured and mentally shaken. “She kicked my body and my head. I didn’t fight back. I still feel quite dizzy,” he said.

The incident has caused an uproar on social media, with netizens expressing anger and support for Ran. “This woman is unbelievable! Does she think she can do whatever she wants?” one Douyin user commented. Another sympathized, saying, “The poor courier couldn’t retaliate, or he would have faced punishment too. He’s so young and just started the job; this will definitely have a lasting impact on him.” A third user added, “She should face a serious penalty. We can’t allow people who try to do the right thing to be treated this way.”
