During the week-long National Day holidays, Baotu Spring in Shandong Province, a popular tourist destination in East China, was packed with visitors. A video showing a security guard holding a plump carp and advising tourists not to overfeed the fish recently gained widespread attention online.

This scene sparked a public discussion on the importance of civilized travel, as many netizens who viewed the clip commented that the fish appeared “too fat to swim properly.”

Zhang Shoujun, the security guard in the video, explained that he was politely reminding visitors not to overfeed the fish because the pond’s water is already rich in nutrients, providing enough sustenance for the fish, according to China Central Television (CCTV).

Zhang noted that the surge in visitors during the National Day holidays attracted many people who were eager to feed the fish. However, this led to instances of overfeeding, which had a detrimental effect on the water quality and the overall environment of the pond.

In response, the scenic area has introduced measures to prevent overfeeding, such as placing signs reminding tourists of proper behavior and increasing the number of volunteers to help guide visitors, CCTV reported.
