VariFlight announced on December 29 that airlines have been notified of a cut in domestic passenger flight fuel surcharges, effective 00:00 on January 5, 2026.
What changes for adults
- Flights of 800 km or less: CNY 10 per adult passenger.
- Flights over 800 km: CNY 20 per adult passenger.
- Compared with the previous rates, that’s a reduction of CNY 10 and CNY 20, respectively.
Concessions that remain in place
- Disabled veterans, police officers disabled in the line of duty, and children (including unaccompanied minors) continue to pay half the standard rate: CNY 10 for flights over 800 km; no fuel surcharge for flights of 800 km or less.
- Infants paying 10% of the adult fare remain exempt from fuel surcharges on domestic routes.
Impact
- The adjustment is expected to lower travel costs for passengers on domestic flights.
