China to Adjust Flight Fuel Surcharges from January 5, 2026

VariFlight announced on December 29​ that airlines have been notified of a cut in domestic passenger flight fuel surcharges, effective 00:00 on January 5, 2026.

What changes for adults

  • Flights of 800 km or less: CNY 10​ per adult passenger.
  • Flights over 800 km: CNY 20​ per adult passenger.
  • Compared with the previous rates, that’s a reduction of CNY 10​ and CNY 20, respectively.

Concessions that remain in place

  • Disabled veterans, police officers disabled in the line of duty, and children (including unaccompanied minors)​ continue to pay half​ the standard rate: CNY 10​ for flights over 800 km; no fuel surcharge​ for flights of 800 km or less.
  • Infants​ paying 10%​ of the adult fare remain exempt​ from fuel surcharges on domestic routes.

Impact

  • The adjustment is expected to lower travel costs​ for passengers on domestic flights.
