On the evening of Dec 19, 2025, a 27-year-old man, Chang Wen, hurled smoke canisters and stabbed passersby near Taipei Main Station and Zhongshan Station, then entered the Eslite Spectrum Nanxi department store where he was surrounded by police. He fell from approximately the sixth floor and was later pronounced dead after resuscitation failed. The rampage left 4 dead (including the suspect) and 5 injured. Earlier, he had allegedly evaded military service and was wanted by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office; Taiwan’s defense authorities clarified he was not on active duty.
