China’s national weather observatory issued a blue cold wave alert on Sunday as frigid air is set to hit large areas of the country in the coming days.
From November 16 to 18, central and eastern regions will experience strong winds and significant temperature plunges, with daily averages or lows dropping by 6–10°C, the National Meteorological Center reported. Some parts of Shaanxi, Chongqing, Henan, and Hubei may see declines of 12–14°C.
The center advised relevant authorities to enhance preparations and take protective steps for tropical crops and aquaculture against the cold.
China’s four-tier weather warning system uses blue (least severe), yellow, orange, and red (most severe).
