Beijing, November 6, 2025 (9:20 AM local time)— Stargazers are in for a treat as the largest supermoon of 2025 is set to illuminate the night sky this Wednesday evening, according to Chinanews.com.

The moon will reach its peak fullness at approximately 9:19 PMon Wednesday. Just nine hours later, it will swing closest to Earth during its orbit—known as the perigee—coming within 357,000 kilometers(221,830 miles) of our planet. This proximity, combined with its full phase, makes it the most striking supermoon of the year.

What Makes It a Supermoon?

A supermoon occurs when a full moon coincides with its closest approach to Earth, making it appear larger and brighterthan usual. This week’s event is expected to be the most impressive of 2025, sparking excitement among Chinese netizens.

On China’s Twitter-like platform Weibo, related hashtags have already garnered over 3,500 interactions and nearly 2,000 discussionswithin 24 hours of the news breaking.

Best Time & Places to View

According to the Beijing Planetarium, the optimal viewing window is within an hour after sunset. Why? When the moon first emerges above the horizon, our brains trick us into perceiving it as even bigger—especially when framed by buildings, trees, or mountains. This optical illusion enhances its spectacular appearance.

For the best experience, head to:

  • Urban high-rises or observation decks
  • Suburban hills or open fields
  • Coastal areas with unobstructed skies

More Supermoons in 2025

This week’s supermoon follows one that appeared on October 7, and another is expected on December 5.

Don’t miss your chance to witness this celestial spectacle—grab a spot with a clear view and enjoy the moon’s dazzling close-up!
