On September 25, multiple social media users shared videos showing a fatal fall on Naimafeng Mountain, a snow-covered peak in Kangding, Ganzi Prefecture, Sichuan Province. The footage captures a group of hikers traversing high-altitude terrain when suddenly, a man dressed in a red climbing suit loses his footing on a steep slope. Despite several unsuccessful attempts to stand, he eventually vanishes from view.
According to another climber who spoke to the media, the man had reportedly unfastened his safety rope to take a photograph with a fellow hiker. As he stood up afterward, he reportedly tripped over his ice axe and fell down the slope.
Local authorities confirmed the incident. Around 10:00 a.m. on September 25, officials in Gongga Mountain Town, Kangding City, received a report of a climber’s fall on Naimafeng. Emergency protocols were immediately initiated. The town coordinated with local police to confirm the victim’s identity and inform his family, while rescue teams were swiftly deployed. Personnel from Gongga Mountain Village, along with additional town officials and police officers, were dispatched to the site to assist in search and rescue operations.
Investigations later confirmed that the fallen individual was a 31-year-old man who was found to have no signs of life following the accident. His family has since arrived in Gongga Mountain Town, and the necessary post-incident procedures are currently underway.
