A teacher hailing from Guizhou, China, has become an online sensation for arranging sex education classes for her 16-year-old pupils on the very first day of the academic year.

The 26-year-old biology instructor, Ms Fu, told Chinese media that she found her students had scant knowledge regarding sex and human anatomy.
In light of this, Ms Fu, who is responsible for teaching science to four classes of tenth-grade students, began devising sex education lessons in the previous semester.

She crafted PowerPoint presentations covering puberty, bodily transformations, and menstrual cycles. Additionally, she educated her students on the significance of safeguarding themselves against sexual assault and the transmission of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

When one of her male students admitted that he had no idea what a sanitary pad looked like, she gave him one. He then opened the package, enabling other boys who were ignorant about it to gain new knowledge.

Ms Fu hopes that by employing scientific methods, her sex education lessons will be readily embraced by her students. She doesn’t want them to shy away from the topic simply because they consider it “embarrassing or shameful to talk about.”

“This is a topic that absolutely must be addressed. Avoiding it is like sticking one’s head in the sand. When the situation calls for it, this knowledge will prevent students from panicking and will better prepare them to assist themselves and even those around them,” she stated.

Since 2021, Chinese schools have been required to carry out “age-appropriate sex education for minors.” However, it’s not clear whether these lessons are standardized across all educational institutions.

Ms Fu has received acclaim for all the thought and hard work she has put into her classes. The majority of netizens concur that “teaching students sex education at an early stage is beneficial” as “kids are maturing at a rapid pace these days.”

A widely shared opinion reads, “Kids are bound to be curious anyway, so it’s better for them to get this education from a trustworthy source.”
