On August 13th, the Panyu District Branch of the Guangzhou Public Security Bureau released a report on a recent case:

Authorities received a report from the public concerning a woman who had made defamatory and insulting comments about Chinese national team athletes and coaches on social media platforms.

Following an investigation, it was discovered that since May 2024, a woman named Wang (38 years old, residing in Panyu District, Guangzhou) had repeatedly posted derogatory and defamatory remarks about Chinese national team athletes and coaches online, leading to significant negative social consequences. Wang’s actions are suspected of disrupting online order and publicly defaming others. As a result, the Panyu police in Guangzhou have criminally detained Wang in accordance with the law, and the case is currently under further investigation.

Additionally, the Daxing Branch of the Beijing Public Security Bureau reported a similar incident: After the women’s singles final of table tennis at the Paris Olympics, a netizen posted defamatory content about athletes and coaches on the Weibo platform.

In response, the police swiftly conducted an investigation and apprehended the suspect, He (29 years old, female). The investigation revealed that He had maliciously fabricated information and publicly defamed others, resulting in a negative social impact. He has been criminally detained by the Daxing Public Security Branch in accordance with the law, and the case remains under investigation.
